Site created and maintained by the Kincardine O’Neil Community Association
The Kincardine O'Neil 'In Bloom' group is a group of volunteers, supported by the Community Association, who take on the task of planting and maintaining the numerous flower tubs situated throughout the village. Plants are provided by Aberdeenshire Council, and funding is sourced from organisations such as the Marr Area Partnership when we need to replace tubs. We have also received generous donations from both individuals and organisations, which generally go towards the purchase of bulbs, compost and fertiliser.
The group participate annually in 'It's Your Neighbourhood', a campaign run by Keep Scotland Beautiful. The efforts of the group are judged on three themes: community participation, environmental responsibility and gardening achievement. Since 2011 the group have reached Level 5 -
In addition to planting the flower tubs the group take on other projects to improve the local environment. In 2011 'natural harvest' saplings provided by the Woodland Trust, including elder, cherry plum, blackthorn, hazel, crab apple, and dog rose were planted on the bank of the Deeside Way at Borrowstone. These are now well established, are providing blossom in spring, and will hopefully bear fruit in the near future.
Any member of the community who wish to participate in 'In Bloom' activities are asked to contact use by emailing us here.
